New Hockey Parents
Thinking about introducing your child to the exciting world of skating and ice hockey? JYH is here to get you started.
JYH welcomes boys and girls from Janesville, Milton, Whitewater, Edgerton, Elkhorn and other nearby communities. Hockey is a perfect place for them to have a blast during the winter season while learning and playing the game of hockey.
Our hockey season kicks off in Sept/Oct. and continues through early March. We also offer opportunities in the spring and summer to keep their skates & skills sharp!
Just Starting Out
Most players begin to skate and play between the ages of 3-6 years old. The best way to start is with the Polar Express Learn 2 s8 program and/or Intro to Hockey Program. This isn’t always the case as we have had many good skaters start later in childhood.
- Try Hockey for Free (THFF)- These are offered several times throughout the season. The goal is to get skaters in basic hockey gear and on the ice. Skates, sticks, and some equipment is provided at the event. This is a great way to come try hockey for free and learn about the Janesville Youth Hockey Club.
- Intro to Hockey- Intended for first time skaters & hockey players who would like to see what it is all about. This program focuses on developing skating with practices divided up in stations for specific skill development. Equipment is provided.
What's Next?
If your child is enjoying the game the next step is mapped out for you as USA Hockey programs are based on their birth year. These programs practice at least 1-2 times a week, play games on the weekends, and participate in a few tournaments during the season.
